New Adult Piano Group!
This term has seen the launch of a new adult piano group. The group meets once a month so that adult students can share things they are currently practising, either in a finished state or in the early stages of learning.
There have been four meetings so far this year, which so far have all been well attended and well-received amongst the students.
This morning was the final meeting of the year, where we heard piano arrangements of Cavatina from The Deer Hunter, played by Julie; The Trout, played by Elsbeth and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas played by Tessa. Huong and Luisa also performed pieces from their upcoming exams.
Importantly, not everybody chose to play something that was “mastered”. Several students opted to play something which was still relatively new to them, in order to share their experiences while learning the piece.
The meetings were conceived as a way for adult students to practise playing in front of a small, sympathetic audience. Learning the piano can often feel like a lonely pursuit, so it is important to recognise that there is a whole community of adult students working hard at the piano.
